Ryan Leonard was named the Hockey East Player of the Month after recording 11 points (10g, 1a) in eight January games for the Boston College Eagles.

Leonard ended January by scoring in five straight games, including two hat-tricks and three game-winning goals. His recent hot streak has seen him climb back to the top of the NCAA in goal-scoring with 23 markers this season. He also leads the nation in game-winning goals with eight and is second in shots on goal with 130.

The no. 1 ranked Eagles went 7-1 during January, finishing the month on a seven-game winning streak.

The Hockey East recognition is Leonard’s second of the year after he won the honors in November, recording 13 points (8g, 5a) in nine games.

Leonard, the Washington Capitals’ top prospect, had a fantastic January overall as he took home his second consecutive World Juniors gold medal with Team USA earlier in the month. The 19-year-old winger was also named MVP of the tournament after recording 10 points (5g, 5a) in seven games.

The 2023 first-round draft selection didn’t cool down in BC’s first game in February, notching three points (1g, 2a) against the Northeastern Huskies in a Beanpot semifinal matchup. Leonard now has 33 points (23g, 10a) in 25 games this season.
