Cole Hutson scores unbelievable unassisted goal in Boston University’s 6-3 win over New Hampshire

Cole Hutson scored one of the prettiest goals of the 2024-25 NCAA season on Friday night. The 18-year-old blueliner dented the twine 16:11 into the third period of Boston University’s 6-3 win over New Hampshire.

With the Terriers on a five-minute power play, Hutson brought the puck into the Wildcats zone, put the puck between the legs of a defender, moved down into the slot, avoided another defender’s poke check, and fired a pinpoint wrister past goaltender Jared Whale. The highlight-reel goal was Hutson’s fifth of the season and his second point in the game.

Hutson grabbed an assist earlier in the game, helping his older brother Quinn Hutson put the Terriers up 3-1.

Hutson has been on fire for BU since he returned from gold-medal-winning duty with Team USA at the 2025 World Juniors, where he became the first defender to ever lead the tournament in scoring. In his last four NCAA games, the Washington Capitals prospect has recorded nine points (3g, 6a).

The 2024 second-round draft selection is the lone defenseman among the top 16 freshman point scorers in the NCAA this year. Hutson’s 19 points (5g, 14a) rank tied for sixth among his fellow first years, and he has played fewer games than all five players ahead of him.

BU will play New Hampshire again at home on Saturday night. They have two games against Ryan Leonard and the rest of the Boston College Eagles scheduled for next week.
