Ryan Leonard is back on an NCAA scoresheet after earning MVP honors at the 2025 World Junior Championship.
Leonard scored from the left circle on a Boston College power play (sound familiar) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead 5:33 into the second period. Defender Michael Hagens slid a pass to the 19-year-old winger, who made no mistake with a bullet one-timer past goaltender Max Lundgren.
The marker was Leonard’s first on the man advantage this season.
Leonard now has 13 goals in 18 games this season. When he left for the World Juniors, he was the NCAA’s goal leader but now trails Michigan State’s Isaac Howard by five goals. He has played four fewer games than Howard.
The Washington Capitals’ top prospect lined up on the team’s first line with his fellow gold-medal-winning Americans, Gabe Perreault and James Hagens. The Eagles held on for a 4-1 win against the Warriors after dropping a 5-2 decision to them on Friday night.
Leonard fired four shots on goal in the win, blocked one shot, and went 5-for-9 in the faceoff dot.
Boston College also got a goal from Teddy Stiga. Stiga scored the golden goal for Team USA in overtime against Team Finland last Sunday.
The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday against the Harvard Crimson. Leonard lit up Harvard last season, recording five points (3g, 2a) in two games.
