The Washington Capitals don’t look like they’ll have to make any substitutions on their backend against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
Martin Fehervary was on the ice and a full participant in Thursday’s morning skate. Fehervary’s status had been in doubt after he missed the end of Tuesday afternoon’s win over the Boston Bruins and did not skate on Wednesday due to being accidentally high-sticked in the face by Tom Wilson.
“He skated this morning,” head coach Spencer Carbery said pregame. “Everything checked out okay, so he should be on track to play tonight.”
Wilson’s stick caught Fehervary on the side of his head, dropping the Slovakian defender to his knees after playing 14:10 of ice time against the Bruins. The 25-year-old blueliner sported a visible bruise at Thursday’s skate.
Per NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti, Fehervary got x-rays on his face, but they all came back negative. Fehervary also revealed that he was put into concussion protocol during the game, so he could not return in the third period.
Fehervary has played in every game for the Capitals this season, recording 7 points (7a) in 37 outings. He has never previously had a completely healthy year in his previous three full NHL campaigns, playing less than 70 games in each of the past two seasons.
