When the Washington Capitals traded for Pierre-Luc Dubois over the offseason, not only did they get a dependable two-way centerman on the ice, but they also got a dapper gentleman off of it.
Throughout the season, Dubois has worn vintage sports hats during media and public appearances, opting to wear lids from his personal collection over newer Capitals hats provided to him by the team.
For instance, during his first interview with Capitals media at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, Dubois rocked a 1996 Atlanta Olympics snapback featuring the popular sharktooth design made famous by Logo Athletic. The hat is valued in the hundreds on some retail sites.
In an interview with RMNB, Dubois said that he’s collected the hats throughout his career as he’s visited or lived in new cities.
“I like fashion,” Dubois said. “Everybody has a different definition of what it is, but I like pieces that you don’t really see or are more rare to find.”
Dubois said that he began collecting vintage hats during road trips three or four years ago when he was playing for the Winnipeg Jets.
“There’s a store in New York that I’ve been to a few times that has a nice collection, so I go to that store every time I’m in New York and probably come back with a hat or two, and I have a few back home,” Dubois said. “Just a nice little collection.”
Recently, Dubois wore a rare and expensive Aimé Leon Dore bowl hat during a podcast interview with Mike Vogel.

While signing autographs for fans at the team’s season-ticket holder event at the National Air and Space Museum, Dubois went even more obscure, wearing a hat dedicated to the 1960 junior Rose Bowl champions: the Long Beach Vikings football team.

When Dubois was asked which lid was his favorite, he opted to go local.
“I bought one last year at a flea market in LA that I like,” Dubois said. “Then I have a Georgetown one, actually that I bought randomly a couple years ago in New York at that store. So maybe that one now.”
