Alex Ovechkin is one of the greatest hockey players of all time and the NHL’s soon-to-be goals king. With all that success, Ovechkin has earned many incredible accolades and trophies throughout his career, including the Stanley Cup and the key to Washington, DC. Heck, he’s even had an asteroid named after him, too.
Now, in what may be the biggest snow-related honor of Ovechkin’s career, Arlington County, Virginia — the same area that hosts MedStar Capitals Iceplex — announced on Thursday that they’ve named a snow plow after the future Hall of Famer.
Alex Snowvechkin will be one of 60 salt trucks taking to the icy streets of Northern Virginia when there’s inclement weather this winter. Snowvechkin was picked through a “Name Your Plow!” contest Arlington County held, which received over 1,200 suggestions. Other chosen snow plow names, both puntastic and fantastic, include Dwight D. Eisenplower, Melton John, Saline Dion, Taylor Drift, and Clearopathra.
Capitals fans who would like to track Snowvechkin in its office — presumably Glebe Road — can follow along via Arlington’s online Snow Activity Map, which activates when there is snow accumulation of two inches or more.
While only four to 10 inches of snow are predicted in the area this winter, Snowvechkin should be sick unbelievable when called upon and clear roads with A Great Haste to bring safety to Arlington’s 234K-plus people (data as of 2023).
