Without Alex Ovechkin, the Washington Capitals beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 on Saturday, notching their league-leading 11th comeback win of the season. Falling behind 2-0 in the first period and not having much of a push after playing the night before, the Capitals scored four unanswered goals, including three tallies in the third period, to steal the victory from the Habs.
Post-game, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery saluted his team, as is customary, but even he seemed perplexed by the dedication and will to win he just saw. No other player better exemplified that fact than Tom Wilson, who took a Jakob Chychrun shot to the face and then returned to the game and scored twice. The left side of Wilson’s face looked like it had a softball inside of it due to all the swelling.
Wilson earned a fun nickname from his teammates in the locker room as Carbery addressed the room with his victory speech.

Spencer Carbery: We dug in again. It’s just f***ing amazing that we can find ways to continue to get the most and find ways to win as a group and I’m going to touch on a few different situations. But overall, to win tonight, after last night, to come into this building Saturday night. (claps) Awesome f***ing job.
And talk about a guy gets hit in the f***ing face with a puck, comes back in, scores two massive f***ing goals.

Tom Wilson: Can’t really talk that well, but love you guys, let’s keep it going.
Wilson’s new nickname is in honor of the Glenn Quagmire character from the cartoon series Family Guy, who has cheeks the size of a squirrel storing nuts for the winter. Quagmire is Peter Griffin’s weird neighbor in the series and who plays a comic foil.
Wilson getting barked at comes from Brandon Duhaime and is a tribute for his toughness.
