The Hershey Bears announced on Monday that head coach Todd Nelson will be away from the team due to family reasons.

In a short release, the Bears said that assistant coaches Nick Bootland and Patrick Wellar will serve as co-head coaches during Nelson’s absence.

The Bears do not play again until Saturday and sit atop the Atlantic Division standings with a 7-3-1 record, good for 15 points.

Nelson has led the Bears to back-to-back Calder Cup championships in his first two seasons with the club. He recently celebrated his 100th career win with the Bears, doing so in his 149th game with Hershey.

With 413 AHL wins, he’s one of the most winningest coaches in league history.

RMNB wishes Todd Nelson and his family all the best during this time.
