The Washington Capitals were an excited bunch after their 6-5 overtime victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.
Avenging their Home Opening 5-3 loss to the Devils, the Capitals won via a Tom Wilson goal in the extra session, giving the alternate captain his second goal of the night.
Notably, Alex Ovechkin lit the lamp for the first time this season — career goal number 854 — while Andrew Mangiapane scored for the first time as a Capital. Brandon Duhaime also fought Stefan Noesen to avenge some cross-checks to Trevor van Riemsdyk.
And, of course, how could we forget Logan Thompson making two game-saving stops in overtime?
Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery had much to choose from in his post-game locker room speech, which was electric from start to end. I suppose you know your speech has connected with your coworkers when they begin barking like a dog. Well, actually, maybe not. But in this context, YES.
