The Washington Capitals will drop the puck on their 50th anniversary season, Saturday night.
After a grueling Training Camp, a long preseason wait, and some fantastic celebrations of the team’s history, the Capitals are finally ready to begin their 2024-25 season. Before puck drop, the team released a hype video to get fans pumped up ahead of the team’s game against the New Jersey Devils.
The video includes cameos from franchise legends TJ Oshie, Nicklas Backstrom, Peter Bondra, Tom Wilson, Olie Kolzig, Braden Holtby, John Carlson, and Alex Ovechkin.
Starting with Oshie, the video is narrated by all of the Capitals legends, both past and present interspersed reading the same script. Several original fans of the team also make appearances.
50 years of Capitals hockey. 50 years of making history in the nation’s capital and all across the DMV.
It all started back in 1974. From the players who helped pave the way to the fans who have been with us since the beginning.
We built a legacy here in DC.
We are proud to Rock the Red. And, the black and gold.
And when we won the Stanley Cup, we all celebrated.
Some more than others.
For the last 50 years and the next 50 to come. This is our legacy. A legacy in ALL CAPS.
Throughout the video, clips from the team’s past are shown, including a faceoff from the inaugural season at Capital Centre, Holtby’s “The Save” against the Vegas Golden Knights, Lars Eller’s Cup-clinching goal, and the team’s famous celebrations in the Georgetown fountains.
“It all started back in 1974…,” the Capitals wrote on X. “and our legacy continues tonight #ALLCAPS”
Well, we’re ready to run through a brick wall. What about you?
