The Washington Capitals made a second round of cuts to their Training Camp roster on Sunday, trimming 20 players with less than two weeks to go before Opening Night.
14 players have been sent directly to the Hershey Bears, five will report to Hershey if they clear waivers, and one, Ilya Protas, will return to the OHL. Five of the players cut — Vincent Iorio, Ethen Frank, Henrik Rybinski, Pierrick Dubé, and Nicky Leivermann — were in the lineup for Washington’s 8-4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
The large round of cuts comes ahead of the start of Hershey’s own Training Camp, which is set to kick off with the first day of on-ice activities on Monday.

Notable players still in the mix include Jakub Vrana and Andrew Cristall, whose performances earned praise from head coach Spencer Carbery on Friday night, as well as Ivan Miroshnichenko, Mike Sgarbossa, and Terik Parascak.
Washington’s decision-makers will have just over a week to make their final cuts before rosters are due on October 7.
