The Washington Capitals wrapped up their 2024 NHL Draft by trading into the seventh round, dealing the Vegas Golden Knights a 2025 sixth-round pick. With their new selection, they took Slovakian forward Miroslav Satan.
Satan, the 212th overall selection, played his draft year with HC Slovan Bratislava’s U20 team. His father is Miroslav Satan Sr., the longtime NHL forward who was once an alternate captain of the Buffalo Sabres.

Satan recorded 30 points (14g, 16a) in 26 games in the Slovak U20 league. He also played for Team Slovakia at the U18 World Championship, tallying four assists in seven games.
The 18-year-old centerman is absolutely massive, standing six-foot, seven inches tall and weighing in at 190 pounds. He was born in New York while his dad was playing with the New York Islanders.

Satan Sr. played 1,050 games in the NHL with the Sabres, Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Boston Bruins. He scored 30 goals against the Capitals during his playing days, the 16th most an individual player has scored all-time against Washington.
After retiring from professional hockey in 2014, Satan Sr. took up a role as general manager for Team Europe at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He then went on to be elected as President of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation in 2019.
The elder Satan is also the general manager of the Slovak teams, making personnel decisions at all levels of international play. Satan Sr. was present at the most recent U18 World Championship where his son helped lead Team Slovakia to a bronze medal game appearance.
