The Washington Capitals selected Cole Hutson with the second-round draft pick (43rd overall) they acquired from the Buffalo Sabres for Beck Malenstyn.

Hutson is a high-scoring, left-handed defenseman from the US National Development Team Program.

In 51 games for the U18 US team last year, Hutson recorded 51 points (15g, 36a) in 51 games. He chipped in an additional 12 points (3g, 9a) in 19 games for the team in the USHL.

Hutson also starred for Team USA at the most recent U18 World Championship, ranking second on the team in scoring with 13 points (4g, 9a) in seven games. He is set to attend Boston University in the NCAA next season.

Cole’s brother Lane Hutson was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of last year’s draft.
