HERSHEY, PA — Hendrix Lapierre is once again shining in the big moments.
With the Calder Cup in the building, the Washington Capitals’ 2020 first-round pick came out flying in the first period of Game 6, scoring a goal and notching a primary assist.
Lapierre’s early heroics gave the Bears a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.
Lappy’s goal came with 36 seconds remaining in the stanza. The centerman deflected a Chase Priskie shot past Coachella Valley Firebirds goaltender Chris Driedger. The tally marked his seventh of the postseason.
Lapierre bent down to one knee to celebrate as Giant Center erupted.
The 22-year-old pivot also authored the primary assist on Pierrick Dubé’s power-play goal at the 5:51 mark of the period. Dubé rifled a shot from the bumper spot past Driedger after a bump pass from Lapierre.
Lapierre now has 22 points in the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs leading all players. He’s a prime candidate to take home the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as Playoff MVP.
The Bears lead the series 3-2 and with a win they can take home their 13th Calder Cup.
