The Washington Capitals lost their sixth game in a row on Sunday night as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Ottawa Senators in overtime. The Capitals also lost one of their top-four defensemen, Rasmus Sandin, who left the matchup early with an upper-body injury.
Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery was asked to provide an update on Sandin during his postgame media availability. The rookie bench boss did not have good news.
“He’s going to miss some time,” he said.
The Swedish defenseman was injured toward the tail end of the first period after absorbing a big hit from Senators forward Parker Kelly. Sandin had his right shoulder jammed hard into the boards before falling to the ice.
Sandin skated just 7:09 of ice time in his nine shifts before retreating to the locker room.
The 24-year-old rearguard has previously missed nine games this season due to lower and upper-body injuries. The Capitals have just five games remaining on their schedule this season. They’ll be back in action next on Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings.
