The Washington Capitals lost their recent hat trick hero in Sunday afternoon’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Sonny Milano departed to the team’s locker room after taking just four shifts in the first period. The Capitals announced shortly after the start of the second period that Milano would not return to the game.

There was no obvious play where Milano was injured. The 27-year-old winger, who tallied his first career hat trick against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night, was out for over two months earlier this season with an upper-body injury.

Milano has recorded 12 points (9g, 3a) in 15 games since his return. He has 7 goals in March alone.

The Capitals will finish the day’s game with just 11 forwards. Milano had been skating on the team’s third line with Max Pacioretty and Hendrix Lapierre.
