The Washington Capitals released a new set of cherry blossom jerseys on Friday. The sweaters will be signed by each player and put up for auction, benefiting the MSE Foundation.
The authentic cherry blossom jerseys, not for public sale, feature the same design as last season, but are now colored in sky blue.
Per the Capitals:
Due to popular demand, the jersey is based off the 2022-23 cherry blossom jersey design, updated this year against a sky-blue jersey background. It was inspired by Washington, D.C.’s, cherry blossom season and features hand-drawn blossoms incorporated into the Capitals logo. The white outlines symbolize the blossoms beginning to bloom. The design continues into the numbering, which features the cherry branches, buds and blossoms.
The MSE Foundation fundraiser will open at washcaps.com/CherryBlossomAuction on Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m. and run thorough 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
The release comes on the same week that DC’s cherry trees around the Tidal Basin reached peak bloom.
The Capitals also released new cherry blossom merch online as well as making drops at their team stores.
Per RMNB’s Katie Adler, this is the merch the Capitals put out at their team store beside their practice rink in Ballston, VA. The drop does include a sublimated cherry blossom jersey (second photo in the top row).

Per the Capitals, the team store at MedStar Capitals Iceplex will accept orders by phone for orders within the United States (shipping charge applies).
The team will be selling gear at their team store at Capital One Arena too, which features an Alex Ovechkin hoodie and different designs of hats. The team plays the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 pm, featuring the return of Evgeny Kuznetsov.

The Capitals cherry blossom jersey was designed by DC based artist Taylor Kampa Olson of TKO Paintings.
