TJ Oshie suffered a scary-looking non-contact injury against the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 22. As he tried to make a pass to a teammate on his backhand, Oshie crumpled to the ice, doubled over in pain.

Oshie has since been diagnosed with an upper-body injury and is out week-to-week.

“I had concerns the same as anybody when you watch the whole situation unfold,” Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan revealed on Saturday.

Oshie has not returned to the ice since the Tampa game, but according to MacLellan, the veteran forward is progressing well behind the scenes.

“I see him [Friday] in the weight room working out and he looked pretty good, actually,” MacLellan said. “I would anticipate that he’s coming back here. I don’t have a timeline for you but I was surprised with how (good) he looked in the weight room.”

Oshie, who has scored 10 goals and tallied 18 points, has missed 21 games this season and is on pace for his fourth straight season playing under 60 times.

The 37-year-old has one year remaining on his contract after this one with a $5.75 million cap hit. The Capitals have 23 games remaining in the season. Oshie is four games short of 1,000 in his career.
