Alex Ovechkin has never ceased to amaze and over the years, he’s taught both his fans and critics alike to never write him off. His latest feat came during the Capitals’ 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning, Thursday.
Ovechkin tallied the primary assist on the Capitals’ final goal of the night, an empty-net goal by Connor McMichael.
Though that credit took some time — Nick Jensen was initially credited with the assist.
SCORING CHANGE: Alex Ovechkin has been credited with the primary assist on McMichael's empty-net goal. With the assist, Ovechkin extended his point streak to ten games (1/24/24-2/22/24: 8g-6a–14p). https://t.co/9zxVlPlMK3

The tally gave McMichael consecutive multi-goal games for the first time in his career, but the apple also put the The Great 8 in some rare air.
The point gave Ovechkin a 10-game point streak, making him only the ninth player age 38 or older in modern day NHL history to do so. It’s the third-longest point streak for a player at this age. Brett Hull holds the record of 12, which Ovi is two games away from.
During those stretch of games from Jan. 24 through Feb. 22, Ovechkin’s scored eight goals and posted six assists.
Per Stathead, it’s the seventh time Ovi — at any age — has notched a double digit point streak in his career and the first time since 2018 when he went on a career-high 14-game point streak, posting 17 goals and 6 assists.

The record holder for the Capitals’ longest point streak in team history is Mike Gartner, who posted 17 game point streaks twice (1981 and 1984).
Ovechkin will look to extend his point streak to 11 games against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
