Alex Ovechkin is on fire. The Capitals’ captain now has goals in five straight overall and four straight since returning from the team’s bye week (and riding a camel).

Ovechkin scored 7:37 into the second period, giving the Capitals a 2-1 lead. The Great 8 got some actual puck luck on the play — something he did not get earlier in the season — as his centering pass to TJ Oshie on a reload clunked off a Canucks defender and past goaltender Thatcher Demko.

Oshie, who picked up the Canucks turnover in the offensive zone to start the play, was the happiest player on the ice when he noticed Ovi scored.

Ovechkin now has 13 goals on the season and 835 goals in his career, 59 away from tying Wayne Gretzky for the most of all time.

After scuffling in the first half of the season, Ovechkin appears rejuvenated and is back on pace to score over 20 goals this season.

It’s Ovi’s first five-game goal streak since 2021.

Ovi’s also the only the fifth player ever, age 38 or older, to have a five-game-or-more goal-scoring streak.

The goal also marks the fourth time Ovechkin has scored on Thatcher Demko in his career.
