Tom Wilson had a very Tom Wilson reaction to a violence-thirsty player admitting to The Athletic in an NHL player poll that they wanted to hit him.

The player was giving a response after voting for Wilson on the question: Who’s the player in the league whose face you most want to punch?

“He’s not a rat. I respect that,” the anonymous NHL player said. “But I’d still like to punch him.”

At a media availability during NHL All-Star weekend, Wilson was asked for his thoughts on the quote by Monumental Sports Network’s Tarik El-Bashir and the Capitals enforcer’s response did not disappoint.

“I’d probably punch that guy in the face, too,” Wilson joked. “Whoever it was, I don’t know. That’s just hockey. I saw that, I was just walking the dog with my wife when that popped up on my phone and we both laughed. Whoever the anonymous was, it was pretty good. At least I was seventh on the list. So we’ll take it. Top 10!”

Close, Tom! You were in a seven-way tie for 13th. Clearly, you need to work on your human sandpaperness in the second half of the season. A few more face-washes and misconducts will go a long way here.

The ultimate winner of the poll question was Nick Cousins who received 28.57 percent of the voting. Brad Marchand finished second (14.97 percent) while Matthew Tkachuk (7.48 percent) placed in third.
