After playing like a wooly mammoth dying slowly in a tar pit since late in the first period, the Washington Capitals have a burst of life in the second period.
The paddles shocking the cold chest of the Capitals? It’s Alex Ovechkin, tipping in a shot from Brenden Dillon.

The Caps were on their heels for a long while, surrendering their lead in the process. But it takes just one good possession to change that game, and that’s just what Brenden Dillon did with a big slapper from the blue line. Waiting in the slot to deflect it was Alex Ovechkin, recording his second goal of the game while beating his old teammate Semyon Varlamov.

The Caps still trail. Brock Nelson neutralized Ovechkin’s goal just seconds later as Jakub Vrana turned the puck over in neutral.
