Capitals head coach Todd Reirden announced that John Carlson missed practice on Thursday. Reirden made the comments while speaking to reporters during a Zoom video conference.
The Capitals’ first-pairing defenseman did not finish Wednesday’s exhibition game after getting tangled with Nino Niederreiter and crashing awkwardly into the boards during the third period. The Capitals defeated the Hurricanes 3-2.
Reirden on Carlson: "He's a really important guy for our team and had a tremendous season. Did a lot of good things in the game. Fell a little bit awkwardly, got tangled up. So we kept him off today. We'll evaluate it every day, and best hope is to have him back on Saturday."
