John Carlson misses practice after awkward fall into boards during exhibition game

Capitals head coach Todd Reirden announced that John Carlson missed practice on Thursday. Reirden made the comments while speaking to reporters during a Zoom video conference.

The Capitals’ first-pairing defenseman did not finish Wednesday’s exhibition game after getting tangled with Nino Niederreiter and crashing awkwardly into the boards during the third period. The Capitals defeated the Hurricanes 3-2.

The Capitals will have a day off on Friday before taking the ice again on Saturday.

Their first round robin game is on Monday, August 3, against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
