Congratulations, UNNAMED HOCKEY TEAM IN THE NHL’S 24-TEAM PLAYOFF. You have just won the Alexis Lafrenière sweepstakes. (Just please don’t let it end up being Pittsburgh.)
The Detroit Red Wings, the worst team in the league by far, tragically fell out of the top three while the Ottawa Senators, who had the second and third-best odds to get the number one pick, will draft third and fifth.

So basically, the team that has won the Draft Lottery is a team that loses in the qualifying round of the NHL’s 24-team playoff (if it even happens).
According to Elliotte Friedman, if the NHL cannot resume play, the remaining bottom eight teams will have a one-in-eight shot at the top selection.
If, for whatever reason, the play-in cannot be completed….the remaining bottom 8 teams will have a one-in-eight shot at the top selection

The Draft Lottery was held to determine a draft order and who would win the right to select Alexis Lafrenière, a super talented forward who scored 35 goals and 112 points in 52 games for Rimouski Océanic of the QMJHL. He became the first player since Sidney Crosby to win league MVP award honors twice. During his time in junior, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound-forward scored had 114 goals and 297 points in 173 games. He also won the gold with Canada’s World Junior Championship team and was named MVP of the tournament.
