Report: NHL training camps won’t start at least before July 10

Sportnet’s Elliotte Friedman is reporting that NHL players were informed that Phase III, the beginning of NHL training camps, won’t start before July 10.

Friedman also reported that teams will play two exhibitions games during training camp and teams will have 28 skaters.

The news comes two days after commissioner Gary Bettman revealed the NHL’s 24-team playoff plan on national TV. In that slide deck, the league said that training camps would not open before July 1.

With a three-week training camp being the most discussed option, a possible resumption of the 2019-20 NHL season may not happen until August at the earliest.
