Wayne Gretzky recently participated in a “#HockeyAtHome” video call with several prospects for the 2020 NHL Draft.
Canadian defenseman Jamie Drysdale asked Gretzky who his dream linemates would be.
Gretzky namedropped Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl, Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby, and Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews and forward Mitchell Marner before making his picks.
“There’s so many good players, that’s a tough question,” Gretzky said. “For me, probably Connor because of his speed, he would open up the ice, and Ovechkin because if we get him the puck you know he’s going to hit the net or at least have a chance to score, so, those two guys would be fun to play with.”
Yup, that’s a #SidBurn.
Gretzky was also recently asked during his NHL20 game with Ovechkin who his favorite linemates were to play with.
“I liked them all,” Gretzky said at first. “They were all fun to play with. Each and every guy that was part of the NHL – listen to make the NHL, you have to be a really good player. So I liked playing with every guy.
“Jari Kurri was pretty special,” he continued. “And then in 87 and in the Canada Cup, I got to play with Mario Lemieux. That was a lot of fun also. I was lucky, I got to play with some great players and that’s what makes the NHL so fun.”
Ovechkin picked three legendary former Caps.
“Of course Backy,” Ovechkin said. “I like to play with Fedorov as well. Semin. All those guys who was in my line and on my team were good.”
