Alex Ovechkin scored with two seconds left to force overtime against Wayne Gretzky in NHL20. His celebration was epic.

Wayne Gretzky and Alex Ovechkin faced off in a game of NHL20 to raise money for coronavirus charities, Wednesday night. The game was aired on Twitch and was hosted by Caps Gaming’s John Wayne. Ovechkin played as a current Capitals team while Gretzky led a legends Edmonton Oilers squad.

While most expected a blowout by Ovechkin, Gretzky, who was playing with his sons, took an early first-period lead. The two NHL legends traded leads back and forth. Late in the third, Gretzky’s Oilers owned a 4-3 lead and looked to close out the game. Ovechkin, embarrassed he might lose to a 59-year-old who rarely plays video games, rallied and scored with 2.4 seconds left to force overtime.

Digi Michal Kempny jumped below the circles to score the thrilling tally. Ovechkin absolutely lost his mind celebrating.

“YEAHHHHHHH!!! HAHAHA! WOOOOOO!!!!!” Ovechkin screams. “OH MY GAWD. WHAT A PLAY. ATTA BOY, KEMPS!”

Here’s the full sequence of the goal.

After taking a stretch pass out of the defensive zone, Digi Kempny executes a perfect give and go with Lars Eller for the tap in past Grant Fuhr.

Despite Ovechkin’s thrilling game-tying goal, Gretzky would ultimately win the friendly with 1:24 left in overtime, beating Braden Holtby in front of the net on a broken play.

“HAHAHAHAHA. It’s over. We’re done!” Gretzky said. “I’m so tired. Ovi, I’m so tired.”

“CHEEZUS,” Ovechkin replied.

It was no wonder The Great One won. He blanketed Ovechkin’s Digi Caps team in shots, 60-26.

The two legends played a much less spirited second game after a potty break but ultimately decided to quit in the second period around 9:15 PM EST.

“We’re splitting the donation total half and half right? Okay. So here’s my suggestion. Let’s leave it [the series a] tie, 1-1 each. I’ll match half of it for $8,000 for $16,000 and I’m sure Ovi will match half [for Washington],” Gretzky said.

“Yeah!” Ovechkin replied.

Then Gretzky signed off with a savage burn.

“So $16,000 for each place. And it finishes 1-1. Nobody wins, nobody loses, and charities all get a lot of money. All right, God bless. Thank you, guys. Just so you know, I got the four Stanley Cups. It’s over.”

Dang, Wayne.

The Capitals later announced they raised $41,041.
