A very serious Lars Eller on the virtual Caps beating the Rangers: ‘I think we played as well as we’re capable of’

Lars Eller spoke after the “Washington Capitals” beat the “New York Rangers” 6-1 at “Capital One Arena”.

And you guys, the Danish center took the interview very seriously.

“I think we played as well as we’re capable of, scoring a lot of goals, getting contributions from every line,” Eller said. “Being able to do it at even strength, like we did today, that’s huge for us.”

He also gave some insight of what it was like inside the locker room. Really.

“The boys were all over him,” Eller said. “Obviously he found the right stick that night. He’s got that in him. After that contract extension, he’s really turning it up now.”

How were you able to able to score so many goals against the Rangers?

Lars Eller: “I think we played as well as we’re capable of, scoring a lot of goals, getting contributions from every line. Being able to do it at even strength, like we did today, that’s huge for us.”

You’ve strung a couple of wins together now after a rocky couple of months.

Lars Eller: “Yeah, I think so. Every time you get a win against a divisional rival like we did tonight, those games are huge and makes the whole team feel good about themselves going into the playoffs here soon.”

Holtby let in only one goal. He faced another 40 or 50 shots.

Lars Eller: “He’s been stellar for us back there. He was great again tonight. We’ve got to cut down on the penalties. I know Jens (Nick Jensen) took two tonight. We can’t keep doing that. Make his job easier back there, that’ll help, which will help the whole team as well.”

Did Nicklas Backstrom go crazy in the locker room?

Lars Eller: “The boys were all over him. Obviously he found the right stick that night. He’s got that in him. After that contract extension, he’s really turning it up now. I think we’re going to see a lot more of that going forward from him.”

How do you maintain this level of intensity against the Red Wings?

Lars Eller: “Just the same we did tonight. Treat it like a playoff-like game. I’m sure we’ll do good.”
