‘How every NHL fan is feeling right now’: Jillian Fisher’s new video is hilariously accurate

Jillian Fisher has been producing hilarious hockey videos for a while now. Each video showcases how different teams and fanbases would act or react to certain events–like “Every NHL teams’ end of season banner,” or “If the NHL did mid-season report cards.”

Jillian was kind enough to talk to us about her process for making these videos, which have so consistently and creatively brought some much-needed humor to the world of hockey.

“With everything going on,” she said, “I just wanted to do something that felt normal and fun.”

Some of our favorite highlights:

  • Leafs: I’m excited! We may finally get some May and June hockey here!
  • Tampa: You can’t get embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs if there’s no playoffs.
  • Red Wings: YOU GUYS! IT HAS BEEN OVER A WEEK SINCE WE LOST A GAME!
  • Sharks: With this team, I wouldn’t even mind if the season was done. Put us out of our misery.
  • Knights: It seriously feels like we’re back to not having a hockey team again. How did we survive with no hockey for so long?!
  • Capitals: I really would have loved to see Ovi hit 50 before the pause.
  • (Make sure you watch all the way to the end for a Sabres surprise!)

Jillian’s process is “to get 2-3 lines [for each team] as sometimes, some things just don’t work as you think when you go to film…I just try to make it so there is enough variation for each team (not always easy as teams face similar problems–injuries, bummed their teams were doing well, excited it’s over, etc).

“Luckily for a topic like this, there are tons to talk about…we’re in such a weird time.”

This is Jillian’s first video since Thanksgiving, and the one before that was from September. It was a much-needed mental break.

By the time the season suspension happened, “I had taken care of myself,” she said, “and had been wanting to get back into making videos.”

She gets asked a lot about her collection of gear–t-shirts and jerseys for 31 teams–so let’s set the record straight: “I’ve collected the shirts over about a 5-6 year period. Whenever I’d travel, I’d try to see a game (didn’t always see one though), and I’d pick up a shirt when I’d go. Over the last year, so many people sent me newer ones so my collection grew quite a bit last year.”

And, as Gritty’s backup (aka Twitter user Topher John @Grittys_backup) pointed out: There’s a lovely fashion theme running through Fisher’s videos that many Capitals fans will appreciate.

Jillian already has ideas for new videos, so make sure to follow her on Twitter and Instagram for more quality content!
