Congratulations to DC Defenders fans who created one of the longest beer snakes in human history

Vince McMahon’s XFL returned this season after folding 19 years ago and the football league is having more success than it previously did. No longer relying on professional wrestling-themed elements, the XFL is contrasting itself to the NFL by presenting football differently with simpler play, quicker action, more in-depth analysis and access, and fun!

For instance, on Sunday, DC Defenders fans made a beer snake that was about as tall as the uprights at Audi Field.

“THIS IS WHAT LEGENDS ARE MADE OF,” the XFL tweeted in all-caps.

The video of the beer snake, which is created after people stack empty beer cups, went viral on social media, garnering over 5.9k retweets and one million views four hours after being posted.

According to the XFL, it unofficially featured 1,237 cups.

Here’s the priceless play-by-play of this Great Moment In DC Sports History.

“There’s been quite the construction during the break in the fourth quarter. The beer snake, the cup snake, whatever you want to call it is really… this is a lot of beers.”

“The poor guy in row one though has been holding the cup for 45 minutes.”

“Yeah, I think that’s a lot of weight on the triceps to hold that up the entire time. Now you gotta figure you gotta get to the top. You have to get to the top.”

“People are throwing cups at them to add to the collection.”

As the fans admired their work, they began chanting in unison USA! USA! USA! Our forefathers would be proud or something.

For folks saying, Ian, why are you writing about this? This has nothing to do with the Capitals. I would kindly point you to the man rocking sunglasses and wearing a TJ Oshie Stanley Cup-champion Capitals jersey in the stands. He’s cooly sipping on a beer so he can add another cup to the collection and you guys, this is the type of teamwork and dedication that the Caps needed to win the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Nats Captain Obvious was also in the stands holding a sign that said HOME OF THE BEER SNAKE.

The DC Defenders beat the St. Louis Battlehawks 15-6. So far this season the Defenders are 3-2 and in first place in the XFL East.

Here are some more fantastic tweets of the beer snake.

And here are highlights from the game too.
