Nic Dowd scores shorthanded, records first multi-goal game of his career

The Washington Capitals’ secondary scoring is Having Itself A Day against the Pittsburgh Penguins, y’all.

After the fourth line combined to score twice in a three-goal first period, Nic Dowd scored shorthanded in the third period to (hopefully) put the dagger into the Penguins.

The play starts in the Capitals’ defensive zone as the team tries to kill a Brenden Dillon delay-of-game penalty taken at the end of the second period. Carl Hagelin wins a puck battle and skates the biscuit up the ice on a two-on-one with Dowd. After faking a shot, Hags sends a pass to Dowder who slams it home.

That’s some Dad Strength right there.

The goal marked Dowd’s third shorty of the season, tying him for fourth in the NHL. The two-goal game was his first in the NHL.

Dowd’s goal also gave the Capitals a 4-0 lead over their biggest rival. Sidney Crosby would end Braden Holtby’s shutout bid five minutes later.
