The Washington Capitals are out of first place in the Metropolitan Division

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 on Tuesday. Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists while new acquisition Jason Zucker scored his third goal in three games since joining the black and yellow. Anthony Angello also added his first NHL goal.

The victory jumped the Penguins into first place into the Metropolitan Division over the Washington Capitals. The Capitals had led the division since October 19 – a span of 122 days.

The Capitals have lost four of their last five games and six of their last nine overall. Meanwhile, the Penguins have won three games in a row and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.

All that losing had consequences and this is it. The Penguins also have a game in hand on the Capitals.

Washington’s next game is Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens before facing the Devils on Saturday and the Penguins on Sunday. The Capitals acquired veteran defenseman Brenden Dillon Tuesday in an attempt to jumpstart their sputtering team.
