Sidney Crosby got an interference penalty in the second period for trying to steal TJ Oshie’s stick. After a tug of war commenced between the two players, officials blew play down and sent Crosby to the box.
Crosby commented on the incident to reporters after the game and you’ll never believe this. He put the blame on Oshie.
“I think it was Oshie,” Crosby said to Seth Rorabaugh. “I think he knew what he was doing with his stick coming by the bench there. I think you can probably watch it and see what happened.”
Video suggests that Oshie accidentally struck Crosby in the shoulder and head with his twig after being hit by Penguins forward Anthony Angello towards the Penguins bench.
The two players scrummed and as they did, Crosby tried to rip Oshie’s stick out of his hands.
Crosby and Oshie do have a history. During the teams’ playoff series in 2016, Oshie threw punches at Crosby during a melee in front the Capitals net.
