The Washington Capitals won more games in the last decade than anyone else, but it was close

The Caps have one game left to play before the clock strikes midnight and we leave the 2010s behind, but the matter is already settled: The Washington Capitals were the winningest team of the last decade*†.

† – if you use the definition of decades that all right-thinking people use
* – if you ignore the playoffs, which is a good idea for the Caps, with that one exception

Sorry, Penguin.

Here’s the top five in wins starting January 1, 2010. As of Sunday morning:

Team Wins
Washington Capitals 465
Pittsburgh Penguins 463
St Louis Blues 451
Boston Bruins 445
San Jose Sharks 432

The Caps and Penguins each have one game remaining, but the Pens won’t be able to close the gap. All of this goes to show that the Steckel-Crosby hit at the Winter Classic on January 1, 2011 might have been the single most important event of the entire decade. Probably not though.

Anyway, way to go, Caps. Way to go, Ovi.
