TJ Oshie awarded Nicklas Backstrom with the Capitals hard hat Saturday after Washington’s 5-2 romping of Tampa. Backstrom scored unassisted in the first period, but it was a tough decision for Oshie.
“[Penalty] killers, great job tonight. You bailed a bunch of us out. Sammy (Ilya Samsonov), you deserve this, but you’ve already got it five times though. Well deserved, but I’m going to share the wealth a little bit,” Oshie said. “This guy was out a little while and clearly hasn’t missed a step on his way back… Nickyyyyy.”
As the players clapped and yelled their encouragement, Alex Ovechkin, in his unmistakable voice, yelled out something to his longtime BFF.

Another player added a “Wow!”
Backstrom ignored the comments from the peanut gallery and made a quick speech to his adoring teammates.
“It’s good to be back, guys, and also to keep winning,” Backstrom said. “Let’s keep this thing going.”
