The Capitals traveled west for their first game of their California excursion, landing in San Jose to take on the Sharks. Take on the Sharks they sure did, as they dominated those teal clad dudes 5-2.
The Caps out-shot the Sharks 28 to 25, but were out-attempted (score effects) at five-on-five 47-45.

- Dominant effort. The Caps put this one to bed after the first period. Adjusting for score and venue sees the Caps at five-on-five take 55-percent of the shot attempts, 56.5-percent of the scoring chances, and 62.6-percent of the high danger chances.
- The Caps have yet to lose to a Pacific Division team in regulation this season, amassing a 6-0-3 record so far.
- John Carlson just keeps on rolling. Another three point night for the NHL’s leading scorer from the defense position. With 99 career goals, he has passed Scott Stevens for the fifth most in franchise history by a defenseman. He is also the first defenseman since Al MacInnis (1990-91) to record 40 points in 29 games and just the second defenseman since 1979-80.
The Capitals’ 106 goals this season lead the NHL, and they scored 106 goals in their first 29 games for the 10th time in franchise history and for the second-straight season.

- Jakub Vrana‘s two goal evening marked his five game point streak. All 14 of his goals this season have come at even strength, which is third in the NHL to Brad Marchand and Leon Draisaitl who both have 15.
- The Caps fourth line is fantastic, highlighted in this one by Garnet Hathaway‘s two goals and Nic Dowd‘s two assists. The Caps saw a ton of possession in the offensive zone with the trio on the ice at five-on-five, grabbing 73.3-percent of the shot attempts.
- Evander Kane seems to score against the Caps a ton. He has 17 goals in 33 career games against DC opposition. He’s also a giant piece of idiot garbage.
