Red-hot Garnet Hathaway scores second goal of night, pays for it

The Washington Capitals’ fourth line is look excellent right now. Garnet Hathaway, reformed spitter recently returned from suspension, has notched two goals in Tuesday’s late-night road game in San Jose.

Hathaway’s first goal of the night was an up-close feat of fencing, taking John Carlson’s point shot and turning it into the Caps’ first goal of the night.

That one almost got called back for goalie interference, but it stood.

Then, in the second, linemate Nic Dowd set up Hathaway, who was surging into the slot. Hathaway got the shot off, but he paid the price for it, tumbling to the ice afterwards.

Hathaway lay on his back behind the net, from which position he celebrated by punching upwards at Dowd.

Hathaway now has four goals on the season.
