Montreal magic: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals saw their 13 game point streak and their regulation unbeaten run against the Eastern Conference both snapped in a 5-2 loss to the visiting Montreal Canadiens.

The Habs out-shot the Caps 40 to 27 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 68 to 48.

  • Y’all, this was a bad one. A take the game tape out, burn it, blow it up, throw the ashes into the ocean type one. The Caps couldn’t get it going in the offensive zone the entire night, spending shifts of pressure trying to clear the puck up ice. Masterful road game from the Canadiens.
  • This was the first start of Ilya Samsonov‘s career that did not see the Caps pick up at least one point. The Caps are now 5-1-1 in his starts.
  • John Carlson assisted on Alex Ovechkin‘s power play goal, giving him a five game point streak and 31 points in 21 games.

  • Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the other Caps goal, giving him four in his last four games.
  • Connor McMichael had the primary assist on the London Knights only goal in a 6-1 loss to the Flint Firebirds.
  • The Caps, Boston Bruins, and St. Louis Blues have combined for nine regulation losses this season. Four of those losses have come at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens.
