Alex Ovechkin gives stick away to boy celebrating 8th birthday

Is today currently your eighth birthday? Did you use the Russian language in an elaborate sign you held up at a Capitals practice? If you can say yes to those two statements, Alex Ovechkin has a used CCM hockey stick waiting for you.

Saturday morning, Ovechkin, one of the greatest scorers of all time, gave away his precious lumber during the morning skate. The stick was for a tiny Russian fan wearing an Ovechkin jersey. He created a sign that read, “Ovi and Kuzy, All I want for my 8th birthday is a puck and stick! Thank you, #1 fan.”

The Capitals documented the moment on Twitter with a photo of the cheesing mom and child.

Ovechkin now sits 12th on the NHL’s all-time goals list with 671 so that is one valuable stick. Hang that one high up on the wall, kid. Don’t let your cat use it as a scratching post.
