Tom Wilson wins it in overtime after bananas pad save by Braden Holtby

Tom Wilson was the difference-maker in Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers. Wilson tied the game in the third period to force overtime, and then won it in that short but sensational OT period.

Wilson’s first goal was a dazzingly smart deflection. Fed by Kuznetsov from a square pass, Wilson gets one touch on the puck to baffle goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.
That goal tied the back-and-forth game and ensured overtime.

After Braden Holtby made a mindbending pad save on a breakaway in the opening seconds, John Carlson passed to Wilson for layup goal to end the night, sending Washington home with two points and giving Wilson one of the best outings of his career to date.

I love everything about both of these plays.

Evgeny Kuznetsov recorded assists on both of Wilson’s goals, bringing him to nine on the season. With the primary asisst on the OTGWG, John Carlson’s point total hits a gaudy 26.

Wilson now has 7 goals on the season, putting him on pace for a career-best.

That was the sixth multi-goal game on Wilson’s career, and his first since November of 2018.
