Friday night, the Washington Capitals played at home for the first time in two weeks. In a dominant first-period, the Capitals reminded their home fans that they are indeed good at the hockey.
The Capitals scored four times in a four-minute and twenty-seven span in the first period. Jakub Vrana, who had only two goals in his previous 12 games, scored twice, using his speed and heavy shot to take advantage of an overwhelmed Sabres team.
Vrana’s first goal came courtesy of a Jack Eichel turnover and a sensational pass by Tom Wilson on his backhand. The dish sprung V who beat Linus Ullmark five-hole on a breakaway.

Jake is so fast, you guys.
Vrana scored a little over three minutes later – this time off a sick cross-ice pass by Michal Kempny. The Czech defenseman found the Czech sniper, who sent a one-timer to the far side of the net beating Ullmark again.

That’s a pretty finish.
“I just try to find an empty spot there and it was a great play by Kemps there,” Vrana said. “I just try to finish it off.”
Jakub Vrana scores to give the Caps a 3-0 lead. That's his first multi-goal game of the season and the fifth of his career.

Vrana was asked if he wanted the hat trick.
“Yeah of course,” he said. “I’m not going to stop. I try.”
The Capitals added a beautiful Chandler Stephenson goal on a redonkulous four-on-one.
Brendan Leipsic also scored his first tally as a Capital to close the scoring in the first stanza.
The Capitals would later add a buck wild Tom Wilson between-the-legs deflection goal and a TJ Oshie tally to close the scoring, making the Capitals the first team in the NHL to 10 wins. They’ve scored four or more goals nine times in 15 games this season.
“I think we’re really confident out there right now,” Vrana said. “We have lots of energy when we come back from the road trip. Everybody’s working really hard, blocking shots, playing good defense and it creates offense. We just have to keep it going.”
