John Carlson has scored a historic amount of points (especially primary assists) to start the 2019-20 season and now he’s starting to get Norris Trophy buzz, especially from his own teammates. Carlson leads the NHL in points. He’s also the fourth defenseman ever to hit the 20-point plateau before the end of October. It’s pretty wild stuff.
Tuesday night, after the Capitals’ 5-3 win over Calgary, Alex Ovechkin announced that he has a hashtag he wants you — yes, you — to use online.
John Carlson (@JohnCarlson74) for the Norris Trophy? 🤔

The comments came after Ovechkin was asked by a reporter if Carlson’s point production even surprises him even more.
“Um, no,” Ovi said. “I said this morning, #Johnny4Norris. That’s the hashtag right now. Let’s keep it going.”

NBC Sports Washington’s Craig Laughlin is definitely on board with this.

It’s still up for debate if Carlson is the top “defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.” Frankly, there are still 71 games left in the season. And this was talked about in October last year too.
But if you’re going to promote John Carlson and his Norris Trophy bid, now you have your official hashtag via one of the greatest players of all-time. Use it. Be merry. Go buck wild, fam.
