Here’s John Walton yelling ‘good morning, good afternoon, and good night St. Louis’ after the Nats won the pennant

The radio voice of the Washington Capitals, John Walton, was at Nationals Park for Game Four of the NLCS.

And seconds after the Nationals recorded the final out to clinch their first World Series appearance in franchise history, Walton unleashed his famous catchphrase on the St. Louis Cardinals.

“GOOD MORNING, GOOD AFTERNOON, AND GOODNIGHT ST. LOUIS!” Walton screams overtop all the cheering. “THE WASHINGTON NATIONALS ARE THE NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.”

The video went viral in Nats and Caps circles online.

“It was incredible,” Walton said Wednesday morning to RMNB. “I’ve been a baseball fan my whole life, and even worked in it for a while. But I’d never seen a moment like that in person. So many Caps shirts, so much energy, so much belief. Our town has come a long way in the last couple of years. I firmly believe that Kuzy’s goal in Pittsburgh started this, but the Nats have taken the ball and run with it. Coupled with the Mystics winning, it’s been a fun few days, and an incredible couple of years.

“I was the PA Announcer for the Reds for seven years, btw. Six years out of seven, we didn’t even finish .500,” Walton said, adding a smile.

Walton has been to almost every Nationals home playoff game this October and has unleashed this saying after every big Nats playoff win, including the Nats elimination of the Dodgers and Brewers.

Let’s hope John has four more of these left in October.
