The Washington Capitals ended a nearly 24-year regulation win drought in Dallas on Sunday.
And inside the locker room, the Capitals were a particularly happy bunch. Ilya Samsonov presented the Capitals Hard Hat to John Carlson after the defenseman recorded two points on the evening. He leads all NHL defensemen in points with ten.

“Good win, boys,” Carlson said as his teammates broke into laughter as he put the Nationals’ batting helmtet on his head. “Let’s go home and keep this going.”
Tom Wilson and Radko Gudas had particularly big smiles during the “speech.”
The nomination is particularly meaningful for Carlson because he’s a hardcore Nationals fan. The Nationals took a 2-0 lead in the NLCS Saturday against the Cardinals.
That’s a well-dressed man, right there. https://t.co/ctwuCmfcb1

The previous winners of the Capitals Hard Hat were Samsonov and Martin Fehervary.
Pretty obvious choice for the @Nationals Cap tonight!#ALLCAPS // #STAYINTHEFIGHT pic.twitter.com/yfX0ZcjjYo

It’s no sword, but I’m a fan of this iteration of the Caps postgame honor.
