Andre Burakovsky’s first goal for the Colorado Avalanche was a game winner

Former Capitals forward Andre Burakovsky scored his first goal as a member of the Colorado Avalanche Thursday night.

It’s one of those skill goals that might make you wish he was still a member of the Washington Capitals.

The play starts in the Avalanche’s defensive zone. After the Avs’ lose a faceoff, Burakovsky takes away the puck by lifting Jake DeBrusk’s stick. Wow, that’s a strong move.

Burakovsky then power-skates the puck all the way down the ice where he pivots at the half wall. Bruins defenseman Connor Clifton wipes out, giving the winger the left circle for a shot. The Swedish sniper rips his wrister off the pipe and in past Jaroslav Halak as he falls to the ice. He lifts both of his arms in celebration from his keister.

Goodness gracious.

“It felt great,” Burakovsky said to NHL.com. “I mean, you never know when you’re going to score in this League, it’s tough to get the goals. Sometimes you are lucky. I just shot at the net and it hit the post and went in. Lucky. I don’t think [Clifton] was fully awake when I kind of jumped by him. We’ve been talking all the time about getting pucks to the net. That’s something that was in my mind and I was just lucky it hit post and went in.”

Burakovsky, who now has two points in three games this season, was named second star of the night while fellow former Capital Philipp Grubauer was first star after making 39 saves.

In the end, that’s one of those goals that reminds you Andre Burakovsky could be one of the top young players in the game if he can play like this consistently. You both love and hate to see it.
