ARLINGTON, VA — The Washington Capitals held their annual Canine Calendar photoshoot at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Monday. And there was one fashion statement we had to investigate further. The team’s fourth-line center, Nic Dowd, wore custom-made boots that had tiny messages and illustrations on them.
“They were a gift from Paige for our anniversary,” Dowd said to RMNB.
“I gave them to him early,” Paige added. “I am horrible at giving gifts.”
Nic then shared the heartfelt meanings behind each message.
The Roman numerals on the outer edge of the right boot are representative of the date that Nic and Paige were married on.
Along the inside of the left boot, near the zipper, are all of the zip codes that the couple has lived in together.
The outer part of the left boot features Paige’s initials, as well as the longitude and latitude of Nic’s NHL debut.
And finally, on the inside of the right boot, are images representing their family: a pawprint for their dog, Arlo, and tiny footprints for their baby, who is due in January 2020.
The boots were custom made by Esquivel Shoes.
