TJ Oshie indicates he wants to fight Warren Foegele for breaking his collarbone

During the Capitals’ final game of the preseason, Tom Wilson received a ten-minute misconduct for going after the Carolina Hurricanes bench. After the game, Wilson said he got enraged by a coach, Rod Brind’Amour, for chirping at him. But it was what happened before that dynamite moment which might be setting the stage for even more combustion during the Capitals’ home opener against the Hurricanes on Saturday.

In the NHL’s game sheet, Wilson committed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Warren Foegele. Foegele, if you recall, is the Hurricanes’ player that broke TJ Oshie’s collarbone when he shoved the Capitals forward into the boards at full speed. Oshie was lost for the series and needed surgery. The Capitals lost the series in seven games.

Now, in a previously unreported video released over the summer by DitcH Hockey, Oshie answers a fan question and reveals that he wants to fight Foegele – well, without directly naming names of course.

“If I had to fight someone next season, who would it most likely be?” Oshie read aloud. “Gosh, I’m sure a lot of people could probably guess with how I went out with the season, but there are a couple guys I don’t agree with or get along with on the ice.”

The video then shows a photo of Foegele slamming Oshie into the boards.

“I don’t want to name names,” Oshie said. “I don’t want to get any material to put on their white boards, but there’s some guys out there… I try to get into one a year. Last year, I had an off year so maybe there’ll be two.”

Both Oshie and Foegele played during Sunday’s game but were on the ice at the same time for only a few five-on-five shifts (2:51 5v5, 4:19 total).

Foegele has gotten in two professional fights, both during his time in the OHL, while Oshie has dropped the gloves seven times in the NHL.

Saturday should be fun!
