Former Capital Troy Brouwer was released from his professional tryout on Wednesday by the Florida Panthers. His NHL future is now uncertain.
The 34-year-old forward played in 75 games for the Panthers last season, leading the team with 177 hits. Brouwer also chipped in 12 goals and 21 points while averaging 12:41 time on ice a night.

After winning a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010, Brouwer spent four seasons in Washington, averaging 21 goals per season.
Ahead of the 2015-16 season, the Capitals dealt Brouwer to the St. Louis Blues for TJ Oshie. That same year, Brouwer helped lead the Blues to the Western Conference Final in his free agency year. That summer, Brouwer signed a four-year, $18 million contract with the Calgary Flames but did not last there long. Brouwer was left unprotected during the expansion draft and bought out the next season after scoring a combined 19 goals during his two years north of the border.
During the Stanley Cup Final, Brouwer went viral on Twitter for the astute observation shared below.

Brouwer has played 13 seasons in the NHL. The news comes the day after former Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth was released from his professional tryout by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
