Hi, Ilya Samsonov is here and he would like to remind you that he is the Caps goalie of the future.
Saturday in the second period against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Russian netminder made the RMNB Save Of The Game on a breakaway attempt by Julien Gauthier.

After getting a brilliant bump pass from his line-mate Morgan Geekie, Gauthier speed in all alone on Samsonov and faked as if he was deking backhand-forehand on Sammi’s glove side. Instead, at the last second, the forward went back to his backhand and tried to slide the puck past Samsonov who was gliding out of the crease.
Nuh uh.
Samsonov reached back across his body with his stick, stopped the momentum of the puck with his blade, and then knocked the biscuit over to his glove where he could freeze it for a whistle.
The goaltender’s impressive stop was the loudest the Capital One Arena crowd got all night.
Lucas Johansen on Ilya Samsonov's brilliance: "He's so big and strong in net. It doesn't even look like he's trying."
