Rookie official Dan Kelly calls penalty on Tampa Bay during Panthers-Canadiens game

It’s the preseason for everybody.

Thursday night, rookie NHL official Dan Kelly called a penalty on Tampa Bay for tripping. The only problem was he was reffing a game in Canada between the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens.

Yeah, uh, sorry, Dan, but…

The penalty was actually on Panthers’ forward Jonathan Ang after he obstructed Canadiens Paul Byron with his stick.

Hopefully, this is the first of many blown calls in the league for Kelly. And by that I mean I hope he has a long career in the NHL.

We’ll forgive ya, Dan, this one time!
